This tool helps verify that the solar array's electrical characteristics (voltage and current) are within the safe operating limits of an MPPT charge controller. It's a crucial safety and performance check to prevent equipment damage.
1. Voltage is King: The controller's maximum input voltage rating (often specified for cold conditions) must NEVER be exceeded by the array's open-circuit voltage (Voc). 2. Current Capacity: The controller must be able to handle the array's short-circuit current (Isc), typically with a safety factor of 25% added for safety and edge cases like cloud-edge effect. 3. Power Matching: The total power of the array (in watts) should also be within the controller's maximum power handling capability for the given battery voltage.
Min Controller Voltage >= Array Voc Min Controller Current >= Array Isc * Safety Factor
